Man sentenced to eleven years in custody following discovery of class A drugs in tyre- Operation Quiz

A man has been sentenced to eleven years in custody for his part in a large scale supply of controlled drugs across the Eastern region.

Gary Graham, 39, of Steeple Claydon, Buckinghamshire was sentenced at a hearing at Luton Crown Court on Friday, December 16th after being found guilty of supplying 15 kilos of high purity Cocaine concealed in a large lorry tyre.

His arrest on May 23rd 2012 in Steeple Claydon was the result of months of work carried out by officers from the Eastern Region Specialist Operations Unit (ERSOU) as part of Operation Quiz –an operation which resulted in the complete disruption of an organised Crime Group with custodial sentences amounting to over 50 years and seizures of 21 Kilos of cocaine from the entire operation, 111 Kilos cannabis resin, 65 Kilos of cannabis skunk and approximately £500,000 cash plus various Proceeds of Crime Offences.

The court heard how Gary Graham had concealed the Cocaine in a lorry tyre which he was transporting in a van owned by one of his co-defendants ( sentenced at an earlier date) before being stopped by officers.

Sentencing Gary Graham, following his trial, Judge Baker told him: ““You fought this to the bitter end giving me and the jury a complete cock and bull story.”

Detective Superintendent Mark Lay, from the Eastern Region Specialist Operations Unit (ERSOU) said: “Gary Graham is the last of a number of offenders to be sentenced as part of Operation Quiz which disrupted a serious and organised crime gang that were operating across the Eastern Region.

“The sentence passed shows the severity of the offence he committed as part of this group – non of whom had respect for the law or the disruption they could cause to people’s lives – purely for their own financial and material gain.

“I would like to thank all of the officers and agencies who have worked tirelessly throughout this operation to achieve this result. Our message is clear : “If you are involved in organised criminality – we will be relentless in our pursuit to stop you in your tracks and bring you before the courts.”
